This trip was the culmination of 17 years of riding bike rides from his first journey, visiting his daughter, who at the time was living in Harrisonburg, Virginia. “That one didn’t seem quite as big to me as actually making to Virginia at age 70,” Zook said. But Zook said was more proud when he finally reached Virginia, completing the journey in just under 15 hours, at 7:30 p.m. Zook actually was halfway through the ride, in West Virginia, when he hit the 100,000-mile milestone.

Friend Scott Morgan joined him for the first 56 miles of the 203-mile trip before bowing out and leaving Zook alone to finish his mission.
